This Texas-born songwriter would definitely be in my personal Country Music Hall of Fame, for his entire body of work. On this week's "Deep Stacks" we discuss his second studio album "Pontiac" with its diverse group of masterful songs from classic murder ballads and heartbreak songs to funnier, playful, clever songs of love and attraction such as "She's No Lady" and "She's Hot To Go" to the whimsical, hypnotic "If I Had Boat" to the lush, quiet, nearly whispered "Simple Song" an almost Rilke, Whitman-esque, poem of cosmic dimensions to the title track "Pontiac", an edgy, haunting, portrait of a combat-veteran trying to cope with a world that doesn't understand or see him, longing to just disappear.
